A type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that acts as an exfoliant. Due to its large molecular size, it is generally better tolerated than glycolic acid by those with sensitive skin. AHA acids work in the top cell layer of the skin (Stratum corneum). They weaken the bonds between the skin cells in the epidermis and cause a slight peeling of the skin (peeling). This removes the top layer of corn, leaving smoother, cleaner, tighter and more radiant skin.
